Originally posted by electricdruid at The fiasco continuesACTA in a Nutshell – What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well. Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.” What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies. Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA. Does anyone have an idea how we might manage to get rid of a piano we no longer want without having to pay for its removal and disposal? We have an antique (ca. turn of the 20th century) upright piano and haven't been having luck selling the thing on Craigslist or with signs posted by the music department, possibly because it's not in the greatest condition. We had never put a high price tag on it, but honestly at this point we'd be willing to give it away for free if only someone would come and take it away. (I suppose I haven't tried Freecycle, but argh, to me that's a pain to deal with and basically last resort.) I wonder if I just haven't found the right audience for this kind of thing (it might be a nice project if one were into restoring old pianos, for instance). Any tips? ... a little weird, that, since it sounds like I'm doing something heroic with Harry and George Weasley. O.o I'll stick with "For brave Regulus!" I think. This entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/316378.html, where there are comments.

shyfoxling (reading aloud): "Severus' hands shook with fury as he stared down at the package in Regulus' outstretched palm..." enotsola: Why is Regulus's package in his hand? shyfoxling Argh. Because you're a smartarse. I oughta tie your smart arse to the yardarm. ...What? I like assonance. Thu, Jan. 5th, 2012, 04:59 pm comic rec: Twelfth Night (Severus/Sirius)

If you're in the mood for some angsty Severus/Sirius, check out someoldcat's comic in progress "Twelfth Night" (as in the 12th day after Christmas; I think it's supposed to be set at that time in OotP). Post with links to most of the pages here (1-18), and most recent post here (p. 19-21). Bonus gen interaction between Sirius and Remus, too. Nothing much to warn about so far although the post with p. 12-18 has some nudity and possibly disturbing content (dream violence). Nothing wrong with this summary, but: Severus Snape is dying. He knows it, he accepts it. As he does, a pair of arms welcomes him in his afterlife...I misread "arms" as "worms." Er. (My, what a game of pinochle they could play in that snout...) This entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/315152.html, where there are comments.

I just realized I AM A DUNDERHEAD and wrote my username on the Secret Snape box I sent out yesterday. 'Cause hey, I thought, as I did with the Yule cards, she might like to know why she's getting this random box from an address in California she doesn't recognize. Oh well. She might have figured it out from my name on the return address label anyway (if she remembers my name). That's my story and I'm sticking to it. No one probably needs me to add to the nearly 10,000 comments on the relevant news post (plus thousands more on later patch and such posts) about how ugly and non-functional LJ's latest changes to comments and threading are. But more serious news of late is that if you have an LJ account you should check its status: people are reporting finding themselves set to recurring payments without their knowledge or consent, regardless of whether they'd ever been set that way in the past. (This is merely by coding accident, one hopes, but still.) This entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/314468.html, where there are comments.

*sporfle* No, I am not going back to my old ways, but with a summary like this, I just had to: Harry has to serve a week of dentition with Snape after a prank gone bad...Now there's a punishment with some teeth in it. http://youtu.be/rbvumrknAKs if the embed doesn't work. "The History of English in Ten Minutes" 8/10, "American English, or, Not English but somewhere in the ballpark". I like the bit at the end about how American English preserves some older features and vocabulary that British English has since moved on from: "...so they carried on using fall, faucets, diapers, and candy, while the Brits moved on to autumn, taps, nappies, and NHS dental care." It annoys me sometimes when people accuse certain words and expressions of being new, weird American inventions when they're not. (The whole series is rather droll and enjoyable, except for the fact that some bright spark apparently thought it was a good idea to carve up a ten-minute video into ten one-minute chunks.) Courtesy of sayurikemiko over on deviantArt, I am pleased to present the following hilarious GIFs of Adrien Brody "ranting" about how he would have been better casting for Snape than Alan Rickman, by sort of matching other words to his mouth movements (in the vein of BadLipReading). If you really really think Alan's perfect and don't have at least a sense of humor about that, then these may not be the GIFs for you. Please note her warning/disclaimer: If I offend your sensibilities in any way in regards to Alan Rickman’s portrayal of Snape, I apologize, and kindly recommend you look at something else. I honestly have nothing against Rickman, he’s a great actor in most things, I just can not stand his version of Snape. If you have an obscure and weird sense of humor in regards to a certain book character from HP, perhaps you’ll laugh. The images are rather large (10-15 MB apiece), so give them a moment to load. They'll run more smoothly after all the frames have loaded. 1. Better casting for Snape2. Continued3. Vengeance begins4. The epic conclusionThis entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/311825.html, where there are comments.
Tue, Dec. 6th, 2011, 11:33 am xkcd poster for sale

I recently purchased this from xkcd, not realizing it was a two-pack including the 2007 version of the "Map of Online Communities" poster as well as the 2010 I was after. This means I now have an extra of the 2007, which I don't need. Sells there for $15 + $5 shipping; selling here for $10 shipping included. Completely new condition, although it seems to have gotten a little crunched when they were rolling it up and sticking it in the tube. When someone requests "Snape/Lily unrequited", it's rude to wilfully misinterpret their likely intent and write it as unrequited love that Lily has for Sev, right? ("Hey, you didn't specify...") Awww. *pout* (Mr. Shyfoxling says, "Are you sure you're not a Slytherin?") This entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/311514.html, where there are comments.
