Now that it's August, I turn 33 in three weeks. When did that happen? O.o

Here, have some art recs. All are worksafe. I'm going to fall back on just links because man I cannot be arsed to manually construct the dA links with thumbnails and all right now.

Except this one. Because this one is majestic. I don't know why punky/gothy/metal/emo/simply-inexplicably-rocking-out-on-the-bass Severus pushes my buttons so dang hard but IT SURE DOES.

oh okay I lied. that's this:

Some other straight-up Snape art:

Half Blood Prince by ithelda
Spy by Natalliel
Snape. by joeyv7

Severus/Lily:

Severus and Lily by katikut (OMG SO CUTE)
The Reason by Cissy-88

And a couple of things spotted on tumblr (with the usual grumbles about how it means I often cannot really track back art to an originator):

(thanks to [livejournal.com profile] irielle for pointing out the source on this one: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MarsupialMenagerie . Seems like they don't have any of this particular one in right now or I would link to it directly.)

p.s. Call him Severus already, wouldja? If you're going to be using other people's first names? Especially in this context, otherwise it makes him seem like something very "other" than her and not also a human being who might have deserved to be loved back. I dunno, I am probably being weird here. I mean, I understand if someone has a considered personal reason to prefer sticking to his surname (like [personal profile] logospilgrim) but in most cases I find his naked surname (as opposed to the respectful "Professor Snape") distancing, unsatisfying, saddening somehow. (Maybe it's just that I can't grok how one would not prefer to wrap one's tongue round the much nicer syllables of "Severus", not that "Snape" isn't fun to play with in some other ways.)

I have never liked the smush name "Snily", but saying Severus/Lily would be far too long here.

SS/LE? Isn't it Slily? *pulls a Voldy and rearranges the letters* SILLY! Slily is silly and drarry is dreary... and snarry... snarry's apparently 'a fart in a lift.' O_o I don't get it.

If you want to use both their first names it should be Sevily (seen sometimes). But Severus usually gets put as the starting "Sn" element in smush names. Annoying to me when the other partner gets their first name (Snarry, Snaco, Snily...) but understandable pronunciation-wise, since "sn" plays well as a starting consonant. Snevans is rarer but sometimes also seen (there's a snevans comm on LJ but not a snily that I'm aware of, for instance). "Snily" is not a pretty word though.

I think the only one of these I really like (though I will use them as shorthand, especially "Snarry"; it's just a lot shorter than saying "Severus/Harry" in full) is Snack, because it forms a regular English word and therefore is a sort of pun. (and because it uses both surnames and thus pleases me that way. Though I guess "Sevirius" would be bizarre. "Sevegulus"?)

The best smushed name out of the lot is snarry, of course. Snack makes the cut as well, because the rest... it just goes downhill from there. The worst is remus/sirius, b/c it doesn't even have a mushed name --- I just found out that their name is Dogstar. There's also another one, but I forgot.

Does there have to be a system for the names, though? What if the name just *sounds* better, even if it is outside the system? Like Slucius? That sounds HOT and aristocratic and refined. ;) (I think it's the 'Lucius.'). Sluna sounds better than with the sn. Because if you go by the system... you get... SNOTTER. LOL There's an icon commemorating how well *that* sounds. XD

Snape/Regulus -- aw, I just write out the whole name. There's no real good way to get a nice short name for 'em. But they're wizards. The longer the better. Size matters, ya know? Severus/Regulus sounds mighty pretty... ;)

Sevir... ugh. That sounds awful. Just call it snack and be done with it. It's what Sirius nearly turned Snape into, after all.

Aside from "puppyshipping" I don't know what else to call that one. Not a ship I'm into. (Well - I figure it's the most canon-like of the slash ships, it's just that I'm not interesting in reading it.)

Sounds like "sluice" to me, which is not always a sexy word!

Sluna sounds better than with the sn.

It ought to be Sevuna or something, though. "Snuna" seems to have stuck for that one (I don't like it).

Because if you go by the system... you get... SNOTTER.

Ayyyup. This has been observed before (that it does, that is; of course no one uses it, except humorously!). And, of course, like Snack it has some confusion: Is that Severus/Harry, or Severus/James? or technically it could be Severus/second generation Potter kids, although people usually just say "Severus/Scorpius" if that's the kind of thing they mean. (.... "Sevorpius" sounds like "Kevorkian"!)

This exercise really can lead into some absurd sounding things.

Severus/Regulus sounds mighty pretty... ;)

I agree ;)

Sevir... ugh. That sounds awful.

Actually just as a sequence of syllables, not thinking about their meaning, I think it sounds kind of pretty - seh VEER ee us. Very unlike seh VEG yoo lus!

Puppyshipping! That's the other way to call 'em - forgot it for a moment, there! I think I just kinda gravitated towards Dogstar, and forgot about the other one. It's not like either of them are kids, so it's had to relate 'puppies' to two grown men.

Sluice? Doesn't sluice mean how rain trails down glass on a windowpane?

But... Seh VEER ee us sounds like "sever us." Which is kinda predictive of the events in Snape's life.

Seh VEG yoo lus = ??? Souds clunky -- I think it's the trouble of going from S to V too fast.
