In This Valley of Dying Stars by fiery_flamingo in hp_darkfestAndromeda, Narcissa, various Blacks; PG-13, 2037 words Author's summary: It seems like the Blacks only gather for their dead.Author's warnings: Character death(s), angst My comment: "...Whoa. That was powerful. Well done." Quote:In a flash of what she then believes is hubris, a twelve-year old Andromeda thinks that more than blood purity or honor this is what her family is: a collection of people obligated to stand over your grave when the time comes, no matter how repulsive or unloved you were in life. They care only by pact, a mutual treaty of mourning. They cry at each others' funerals because no one else will.----- These Are the Hells We Crave by mentalistecbm in hp_emofestRegulus/Sirius, NC-17, ~1200 words Author's summary: Toujours pur, and this is no place for outsiders so we’re fucking keeping this shit in the family.Author's warnings: incest, but I’d wager that’s pretty obvious. My comment:" Toujours pur, and this is no place for outsiders so we’re fucking keeping this shit in the family.I liked this line a lot. I can just see Regulus's face, grave and resolute. When Severus almost dies and absolutely everyone knows that Sirius had something to do with it and Slytherin declares fucking warOooh, I so hope something like this happened, that Severus had some defenders in the matter at least. Although somehow I see Severus being humiliated by the whole thing and trying to keep it as hush-hush as possible. But yes, this would be lovely, a whole fic prompt in itself. And yet I also love how Regulus is a fierce defender of his own brother and nothing gets in the way of that. It's just how I see Reg - despite everything, brotherly bond wins out." Quote:He’s no idea why it started or where it happened, not really; he remembers that it was winter, which makes a strange bit of sense, and that Sirius had worn a black wool coat that evening, had stolen Regulus’ Slytherin scarf, and that he looked so fucking perfect, looked like those colours were where he belonged. ----- Nowt to Be Afraid Of by odogoddess in snapelyholidaysSeverus, Eileen, mentions of Lily & Harry & Albus; PG, 2840 words Author's summary: If dreams can be nightmares, can nightmares be mere dreams? My comment: "That was just delightful all around! Great voice and tone." Quote:He sat, grateful for a peaceful night's sleep for a change. He could hear muffled sounds from the kitchen and a nearly forgotten smell he thought of as home and what he'd missed most after he'd grown up and his mother...
Grown up? He studied his arm. It was thin and small. He looked down and noted the rest of his slender, bony body. He lifted the bedcovers and then his nightshirt, allowing the cold in to note his still hairless and lanky boy's body. His hands shook as he dropped his nightshirt and blanket back down.
But I died... didn't I?This entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/318603.html, where there are comments.

I had worked up a giant rec post (22 links) and DW ate it through the fault of a slip of my fingers, so since I can't face the effort of meticulously filling out the template that many times at once again, I think I'm just going to do them a few at a time. ----- Vitae poscaenia celant by the-watched-potKid Severus, other local kids; PG, 2834 words "Oi, Beaky! Didn't anyone tell you school finished a month ago?" Toby clutched his satchel to himself and stared at them miserably, saying nothing. Sooner or later, they'd get bored. One of the newcomers drew inexpertly on a cigarette, coughed, and flicked the glowing end towards the dry grass where the younger boy stood. A twist of breeze stirred the canal, batting the ember down into the water, where it winked out with a brief hiss.----- Bittersweet by the-watched-potSeverus, Minerva; G, 1800 words A ready-made family, almost wholly Pureblood, if the family tree had been accurate, eager to embrace their prodigal son.
And all that Severus had to do was change his name.----- Saucery by the-watched-potOC house-elf, mentions of Hogwarts teachers; G, 2843 words A tall blue china mug embellished with silver for Professor Sinistra, the coffee within swirled with just enough cream to leave it a fraction of a shade lighter than her skin. No biscuits for the slender astronomer, but a carefully selected peach, sitting demurely on a small plate beside a round-handled silver knife. A heavy crystal glass of hot water with a slice of orange floating in it for Madam Hooch, along with three shocking-pink wafer biscuits.----- This entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/317954.html, where there are comments.

Mon, Aug. 1st, 2011, 12:11 pm art recs

Now that it's August, I turn 33 in three weeks. When did that happen? O.o Here, have some art recs. All are worksafe. I'm going to fall back on just links because man I cannot be arsed to manually construct the dA links with thumbnails and all right now. Except this one. Because this one is majestic. I don't know why punky/gothy/metal/emo/simply-inexplicabl y-rocking-out-on-the-bass Severus pushes my buttons so dang hard but IT SURE DOES. Dee Dee Snape by madoldsquib on deviantART The AU Files: Teal Niffler by someoldcat. There is also a hilarious ficlet to go with it! oh okay I lied. that's this: Some other straight-up Snape art: Half Blood Prince by itheldaSpy by NatallielSnape. by joeyv7Severus/Lily: Severus and Lily by katikut (OMG SO CUTE) The Reason by Cissy-88a l w a y s by RandomsplashesAnd a couple of things spotted on tumblr (with the usual grumbles about how it means I often cannot really track back art to an originator): (thanks to irielle for pointing out the source on this one: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MarsupialMenagerie . Seems like they don't have any of this particular one in right now or I would link to it directly.) p.s. Call him Severus already, wouldja? If you're going to be using other people's first names? Especially in this context, otherwise it makes him seem like something very "other" than her and not also a human being who might have deserved to be loved back. I dunno, I am probably being weird here. I mean, I understand if someone has a considered personal reason to prefer sticking to his surname (like logospilgrim) but in most cases I find his naked surname (as opposed to the respectful "Professor Snape") distancing, unsatisfying, saddening somehow. (Maybe it's just that I can't grok how one would not prefer to wrap one's tongue round the much nicer syllables of "Severus", not that "Snape" isn't fun to play with in some other ways.) ( http://severusandlily.tumblr.com/post/8226037460) I have never liked the smush name "Snily", but saying Severus/Lily would be far too long here. As usual, some of these are a bit behind by now (going back about two and a half months). See tags for what's in this batch; I think there's more gen than usual (has some recs from snapecase and deatheaterfest). The Living and the Dead by as-yet-anonymous (Bloody Baron, Severus, PG-13, ~3950 words) Author's summary: There is a gulf between the living and the dead which is not meant to be crossed. And yet the moment the Bloody Baron sees Severus Snape, he knows that he is going to befriend the boy.RUN DO NOT WALK TO READ THIS. srsly. It is that good. I do not wish to spoil the impact of certain lines by quoting my comment at you, so I won't. But. But, but. Ohhh ye gods and little fishies. Tue, Jan. 25th, 2011, 01:04 pm various recs

Nine recs, a few slightly stale from holiday fests, others from snapecase which is still posting, although I could have sworn I saw the author of "Standing at the Fork in the Road" claiming it as hers somewhere O.o but I can't find that now. (Anyway, if any of these are yours and you're at liberty to reveal it, please do say - I may have missed some attributions since it seems not all fests go back and edit in author names after reveals.) On the table here today we have Severus/Regulus, Severus/Sirius, two Severus/Harry, and a bunch of gen (or nearly gen). Thu, Dec. 9th, 2010, 12:08 pm in which someone is wrong on the internet

From the artist's comment on a pic on dA: I was totally disgusted with the film's rendition of 6th year Snape--or what looked like an emo kid picked straight out of MySpace. I think Sev would have been moderately attractive... but still--you know--Snapish. So I made an effort to make him...well... kissable. (leaving aside 1. the strict canon interpretation that what you suggest is unlikely, 2. the obvious correction that that was fifth year, albeit he was nearly sixteen and a half, and 3. my peeve about using "emo" as an insult)Whaaaaaaa you so cray-cray! (That's right, English fails me.) That "emo kid picked straight out of MySpace" is gorgeous, and visually beats what we're given for his adult self IMNSHO. If you think this isn't "kissable" then it's time to call in Dr. House because I just don't know what's wrong with your brainmeats: I dunno about youse guys, but I can hardly look at that shot without wanting to push him up against the wall and kiss him half insensible. :P (Do not take too seriously. Just having a fangirl moment.) This entry was crossposted from http://shyfoxling.dreamwidth.org/260858.html, where there are comments.
Mon, Dec. 6th, 2010, 01:56 pm For Enemies (Severus, gen-ish with some smut, hard R)

This was originally written last February/March as a birthday present for mimimanderly. I got so discouraged by what my betas had said that I wound up not really finishing it and posting it only under a very tight lock that just two people could see. This is still "not really finished" in that there is another scene I think it would benefit from having, but I think at this point that I am probably not ever going to write it, so I've just papered over the join in the hope that it won't be too bumpy of a ride. (Those who have read it, don't feel obliged to do so again; there's no new material here. In fact, I cut about a hundred words off the end, for what I think is a better stopping place.) The whole thing was really only ever intended as a light framing for the sexy image near the end of it anyway. Title: For Enemies Pairing/Characters: mostly Severus; long-winded two penn'orth from Lucius; hints of (unrequited) Severus/Lily Genre: um, PAIGTISP? (Plot? Actually I Guess There Is Some Plot) Rating: hard R, maybe barely NC-17 Words: ~4300 Summary: Severus experiments with a spell he came across while revising for his O.W.L.s. Warnings/Contains: Wow, never thought I'd ever do this; now I can see how it might spoil things a little for those who care. So highlight for warnings: Abuse of frogs (animal testing, not sadism), blood, self-inflicted wound (not self-harm in the usual sense), masturbation.A/N: Did he invent it or did he find it? Canon actually isn't explicit. I like both ideas; this stems from the latter. Betaed by coyotegoth and by inamac, who is largely responsible for Lucius's letter as it appears here. Random unfinished fragment that I don't really intend to so anything else with. I briefly considered starting a filter for these kinds of scratchpad/"sketchbook"/"scrapbook" things, because I know there are some people who don't mind looking at such whereas others avoid anything but fully finished works and won't even touch a chaptered WIP until it's done, but I figure it's better to have it public behind a cut and them that ain't int'rested, they's don' have to click. So. Severus and Lily genish/unrequited (whatever you want to call it - pretty much like it is in canon), off the terribly original idea of a slightly different take at the portrait hole and then follows a few of Severus's thoughts. ~600 words. ...and to all a good night and Merry Christmas Git by (anonymous. yeah, that's the ticket. anonymous.) (Severus/Sirius/Remus, smut/humor, NC-17 and very NWS) Severus is caught (once again) sneaking around the Gryffindor common room on Christmas Eve. He gets something much more interesting than the information he was looking for. He is then is returned to the Slytherin dorm in a rather festive fashion, much to his chagrin. Lucky for him the House-Elves don't go away for the holidays.*flail* ...no, rly. *flail* My utterly coherent and helpful comment: "The Rabid Kneazles"!!!
I see what you mean about failing at anon, heh. Neha is so lucky to have gotten this gift! (almost typoed "git", hehe)
And hey, Sev, at least they left you your wand, if not your dignity.I'm kind of starting to need an icon for this particular trio, not that I have any room for one on LJ.
